The Department of Oriental and Islamic Studies in Tübingen offers a diverse range of seminars, language courses and research projects. Within the framework of our degree programmes, students receive a broad overview of the languages, history and cultures of the Middle East and the wider Islamicate world. Our language programme includes Arabic, Persian and Turkish. Research-oriented specialisation courses are offered in the areas of focus of the two chairs of the department, i.e. in the area of Islamic intellectual history (philosophy, theology) and in the area of Islamic history and culture (history of literature and culture).
For students, Tübingen offers many interdisciplinary networking opportunities, e.g. in the field of Middle Eastern politics, anthropology and philosophy, through the Centre for Islamic Theology, or through the study of archaeology and ancient oriental languages.
