New Paper: Comparing simulated and reconstructed temperatures for the last deglaciation

Congrats to Nils Weitzel and co-authors to the successful publication of their new paper. More...

Nils Weitzel and a team involving Kira Rehfeld, Jean-Philippe Baudouin, and Elisa Ziegler successfully published their new paper "Towards spatio-temporal comparison of simulated and reconstructed sea surface temperatures for the last deglaciation" in Climate of the Past.

We develop a new method to evaluate time-scale dependent characteristics of transient simulations of the last deglaciation against reconstructed sea surface temperatures. The reliability and robustness is tested in idealized experiments. Then, we demonstrate the method by quantifying the deviations between an ensemble of transient deglacial simulations and a global compilation of sea surface temperature reconstructions. The ranking of the simulations differs substantially between the considered regions and timescales, which we attribute to more regionally confined temperature variations in reconstructions than in simulations. The reasons for this difference are yet to be investigated.
