Continuously, chemicals are emitted into the environment either on purpose like in the case of pesticides or fertilizers, as “side effects” e.g. of production processes, or out of thoughtlessness. With the global population and economic growth emissions of waste and chemicals are likely to increase as well. Therefore, one of the main global aims is to reduce emissions and the subsequent risk of affecting human health and the environment.
We specifically focus on:
- Fate and effects of (organic) pollutants in the environment: From basic knowledge to risk assessment
- Microplastics in freshwater ecosystems: Environmental behaviour, transport of associated chemical pollutants and impacts on aquatic organisms
