Ecotoxicity of particles
MiWa
The joint project "MiWa" (Microplastics in the water cycle, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, funding number 02WRS1378) aims to optimize and standardize sampling techniques and methods for the analysis of microplastics in limnic ecosystems. In addition, effects of microplastics on vertebrates, invertebrates and cell culture systems are investigated (http://www.wrh.tu-berlin.de/miwa/menue/miwa/).

EXPAND
In the environment, toxic compounds may interact with nanoparticles which will modify bioavailability and toxicity of these chemicals. Furthermore, mixture toxiocity may be exerted even without abiotic interactions of soluble chemicals and nanoparticles. The mini-graduate school EXPAND comprises expertise of geoscientists, biologists, and chemists and addresses possible interactions of toxic organic chemicals with nanoparticles and investigates effects on cyanobacteria, fungi, and insects.
