Biography

Wei-Che Fu is a Ph. D candidate in sociology at National Tsing Hua University. He is interested in the land expropriation and real estate development in contemporary Taiwan and in quantitative and qualitative methodologies. His Ph. D dissertation, based on his previous activist participant experience, entitled Land Expropriation and Democracy Transition: Land Development, Political Survival and the Transformation of Institution in the Post-War era of Taiwan focuses on the institutional transition of land expropriation and its political and economic consequences in contemporary Taiwan. 

He has been awarded several scholarships on his dissertation project such as the 2020 scholarship for  doctoral dissertations by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) and the 2019 Fellowship for Doctoral Candidates in the Humanities and Social Sciences by Academia Sinica. He has also presented several works in international conferences and published in high quality journals in mandarin Chinese. Thanks to the Sandwich program of DAAD and MoST, he is going to conduct his project “The Property Right on Trial: The Development of the Land Expropriation Institution under Regime Transition in Taiwan“ at Tübingen and aiming to provide an explanation of land governance during the democratization of Taiwan from a comparative perspective.
