AI Policy of the English Department

In line with the University of Tübingen’s position, the English Department acknowledges that AI tools are both potentially transformative and disruptive. They have become an unavoidable feature of academic and professional workplaces. Students will graduate into a world saturated with AI; the university therefore has a responsibility to prepare students for this world. The English Department seeks to provide a space for experimenting and learning, so that students and lecturers become acquainted with both the potential and the risks of AI. As a community of students, lecturers, researchers, and future teachers, the English Department is committed to all research and writing being the result of the researchers’ and writers’ own thought processes, analyses and critical thinking. Rather than prohibiting the use of these tools, we want to support students in learning how to use them effectively, ethically, critically, and transparently.
