Development of a mobile analytical device for chemical and structural analyses of solid materials with X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (XRF), and Raman spectroscopy.

The CCA-BW, together with its industry partner Helmut Fischer Institut für Elektronik und Messtechnik GmbH is developing a new analytical device, which will allow non-destructive analysis of both chemistry and structure on a huge variety of materials, using multiple methods with high spatial resolution. Due to a small footprint, low weight, no need for high-power current supply, and external water cooling, the setup will enable on-site analysis in museums, collections, or even directly on excavation sites. This capability is essential for archaeometry because many archaeological artefacts are immobile due to their size, cultural and political prominence, or export restrictions.
