Biography

Chia-Yuan Huang received her BSc and MA degrees from National Taiwan University and started her PhD studies in the UK since 2014. From 2010 to 2014, she worked as Executive Secretary for the Population and Gender Studies Center of National Taiwan University whilst also acting as an Editorial Assistant for Journal of Population Studies (TSSCI) and Taiwanese Journal of Rural Studies. From 2016 to 2017, she was a visiting PhD student at the Department of Geography of National University of Singapore. She is currently a PhD Candidate at the Department of Geography of University College London and is also working as Research Project Officer for the SOAS Centre of Taiwan Studies. Her research interests include migration and transnationalism, as well as young adults, women and work in the global context of mobility. Several articles she has (co)authored have been published in journals such as The China Review (SSCI), Journal of Population Studies (TSSCI), Translocal Chinese: East Asian Perspectives, Forum in Women’s and Gender Studies, and Taiwan Insight. She was involved in the editing process of the GIS Notebook of Taiwan’s Population Map, which was published in 2011 by the Population and Gender Studies Center of National Taiwan University. She also has experience in translating articles from English to Chinese which were published in Contemporary Issues in Geographical Thought and Women, Space and Society. Her PhD dissertation research is on the subject of Taiwanese young people’s migration trajectories and transnational experiences in global cities.
