Since 2012 he is Academic Director of The German Institute for Adult Education – Leibniz Centre for Lifelong Learning (DIE).
His research mainly focuses on the change of the institutional structure of further education, empirical research on learning and instruction, the professionalization of adult/further education, and case-based learning in (adult) education.
He is a member in the Section for Adult Education as well as in the Empirical Educational Research Group within the German Society of Educational Science and a scientific consultant with the journal „Report“.
