The project focuses on a comprehensive hermeneutical and socio-ethical study of the Qur'anic verses to which a normative value is ascribed in the exegetical and legal tradition of Islam. The discourse on the legal value of these normative verses (ayāt al-aḥkām) and their binding nature is almost as old as the Qur'an itself. Today, the norm verses are increasingly becoming the focus of debates on ethics and secularisation. The traditional notion of a firmly established Islamic legal order, which has become entrenched in modern times, is no longer tenable, especially in life contexts outside Muslim majority societies.
The Research project aims to scientifically organise the debate on the Koran's normative verses using a multidimensional approach and to relate it directly to practical and pedagogical questions of Muslims in Germany.
