Damiano Scotton is a PhD candidate at the Institute of Political Science at the University of Tübingen, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Thomas Diez. He holds a BA in Political Science and International Relations and an MA in Human Rights and Multi-Level Governance, both from the University of Padua (Italy). Since 2019, he has been Assistant Professor at the Universidad del Azuay in Cuenca, Ecuador, where he also serves as Director of the Politics and Human Rights Network.

His doctoral project, Integration Mirages: Discursive Constructions of Limits to Supranationality in Regional Orders, examines how sovereignty-centred narratives construct certain political challenges as inherent limits to supranational governance, naturalizing the nation-state as the unquestioned horizon of political legitimacy. Drawing on constructivist IR theory and discourse analysis, the project asks whether these perceived limits are structurally grounded or discursively produced, with a comparative focus on the European Union and South American regionalism.
