Information on starting your studies

Have you enrolled / will you enroll yourself for one of our degree programs in the summe semester 2026? Welcome to our Department of Computer Science!

Below you can find important information on starting your studies here in Tübingen and on important events (last update: 18th January, 2026). Please note that the listed information is preliminary and subject to changes. 

1. Information e-mail within the next few weeks (after your enrollment)

After your enrollment, you will receive an information e-mail with further information on the start of your studies. For this peupose, please check the inbox for your student e-mail address (name.surname@student.uni-tuebingen.de), which you will receive as part of the enrollment process. 

2. For first-year Bachelor students:

  • Before the start of lecture time there will be a Mathematics Preparatory Course, taking place from 30th March to 9th April, 2026. We strongly advise all first-year students to attend this preparatory course, as it will allow you to brush up your math skills and prepare you well for the math content you will be taught in your first semester. Please register here until 25th March, 2026, at latest.  
  • In addition, we will offer subject-specific introductory events, in which you will receive important information on the organization of your studies and the formal framework conditions. We strongly recommend attending this introductory event for your subject because it helps you in organizing your studies and being aware of important regulations and deadlines throghout your studies.The subject-specific introductory events usually take place in the week before the lecture time starts. The exact dates and times will be announced here soon (until the end of March; Note: TBA = to be announced).

3. For first-year Master students:

  • For first-year Master students in Medical Informatics and Bioinformatics who have a Bachelor's degree in the field of life sciences and will study their Master's program according to variant B, a pre-course “Computer Science for Life Scientists” will be offered from 27th March to 2nd April, 2026. Please register here for this course until 16th March
  • In addition, subject-specific information events will be offered, usually in the week before the start of the lecture time. The exact dates and times will be announced until end of March (Note: TBA = to be announced).

  • Apart from the subject-specific information events, we also offer a “Mastercafé” for all first-year students in our master's programs (usually also in the week before the lecture time starts). During the Mastercafé, you will not only be able to exchange with other students over coffee/tea and sweets, but also with lecturers and the persons responsible for your degree program and ask your questions. The exact date and information on how to register for this event will be announced here during March. 

4. Term opening of the Department of Computer Science

Also in the week before the lecture time (typically on Friday afternoon) the term opening of the Department of Computer Science for all students at our department will take place. As part of the term opening you will learn about new developments in the department, and there will also be brief presentations of various courses that are offered in the elective areas. The exact date will be announced soon (during March). 

5. Offers from Student Councils Computer Science (FSI) and Cognitive Science (FSK)

The student councils Computer Science (FSI) and Cognitive Science (FSK) organize an informal social program with lots of activities to help you get to know your fellow students, students from higher semesters and the city of Tübingen. 6. Central, interdisciplinary information on your start of studies

In addition, the university also offers central, interdisciplinary information on the start of studies around the beginning of the lecture period (e.g. introductions to the student administration portal “alma” and information events on the topic of “Studying with disabilities”).
