Wilhelm Schickard ushered in the era of computing devices in Tübingen – and never has computer science been as exciting as today, almost 400 years later. The more than 25 groups of the Wilhelm-Schickard Institute (WSI) teach, research and apply computer science at top level.
We, the scientists and students at the institute, perform research in the core areas of computer science as well as in bioinformatics, media informatics, and cognitive science. We benefit from the rich and varied research environment of a comprehensive research university – there are numerous close contacts with colleagues not only in our own department, but also with colleagues in biology, medical science, media studies, educational science, psychology etc.
The department is rapidly expanding in its focus on machine learning. Through close cooperation with the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems and the University of Stuttgart within the framework of the Cyber Valley Initiative of the state of Baden-Württemberg, the Neckar region is establishing itself as the European center for machine learning.
If you share our fascination with computer science, the WSI is the right place for you – enroll for the accredited Bachelor's and Master's programs of this young discipline, and join the Department of Computer Science in Tübingen!
