Deepfakes and the law

What challenges do deepfakes pose from the perspective of media, copyright and personal rights? How do sexualising deepfakes (aka deepporn) affect sexual self-determination? How should deepfakes be regulatedlegally? These are the topics of a one-day symposium at the Institute for Copyright and Media Law (IUM) in Munich on 14 March 2025.
In her talk, Maria Pawelec will focus on political science and democratic theory perspectives on the opportunities, risks and dangers of deepfakes for democracy and the community.
