Centre of International Economic Studies (CIES) in Tübingen

Research cooperation in the field of international economics.

The University of Adelaide and the University of Tübingen will further deepen their research cooperation in the field of international economics. As of September 1, 2015, the University of Adelaide will establish the European subsidiary of its renowned Centre of International Economic Studies (CIES) in Tübingen. The CIES was established in 1989 by the School of Economics at the University of Adelaide. The Foundation Director is Professor Kym Anderson, a leading expert in the field of international trade, in particular in the economics and political economy of distortionary trade policies. The European branch will be managed by Professor Frank Stähler who is a Professor of Economics in the School of Business and Economics at the University of Tübingen and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Adelaide's School of Economics.

"The main role of CIES Tübingen will be will to promote academic exchange at all levels between the University of Adelaide and the University of Tübingen and other European universities that are also places of academic excellence in the field of international economics", says Frank Stähler. He expects that the presence of the CIES will lead to a substantial increase in research cooperations between researchers from Adelaide and Tübingen and other places. "There are so many topics, from potential tax evasion of multinational firms to international investment agreements, that are hot in Australia and Germany and other countries," he says. He also thinks that the CIES in Tübingen will provide support for the research initiatives of his colleagues in Tübingen.

The School of Business and Economics already has a double-degree program with the University of Adelaide for its Master students, and Frank Stähler will spend a part of his upcoming sabbatical at the University of Adelaide.
