The Bonn-Brussels Excursion (since 2014)
As part of an excursion, CMEPS students have the opportunity to travel to Brussels and then to Bonn every winter. A series of exciting discussions are held with representatives of government-related and independent institutions, such as the European External Action Service, on relevant topics. The students will also meet members of the European Parliament and representatives of the Permanent Mission of Germany at NATO. This is followed by an very informative meeting with the MENA Programme Director of the International Crisis Group (ICG), who provides exciting insights into political analyses and everyday consulting work.
In Bonn, the programme usually begins with the ‘Paths of Democracy’ city tour, which provides insights into the former government district. The excursion also offers an informative discussion with the International Centre for Conflict Studies (BICC) about their efforts to promote peace. The students will also have the opportunity to gain an insight into the combination of research and practice at the German Development Institute (DIE) and talk to a representative of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) about the challenges of German development policy.
