The Global Encounters research platform seeks to broaden the spectrum of its research topics. For this reason, four fellowships are awarded annually with a shifting thematic focus. 

Research areas of the platform are: 

- Knowledge formations in global context 

- Religion in Global Encounters 

- Global flows, fractured places: Un/doing difference, un/doing belonging 

- Global transformations and potentials for change in the 21st century 

- Arts-based research – Transdisciplinary encounters 

All fellows will be hosted by a professor at the University of Tuebingen. During their stay and in addition to project presentations and participation in research colloquia and other university events, fellows can work on their own project proposals and publications. There are office spaces for all fellows at the College of Fellows so that collaboration can be intensified in working together. Fellows have the opportunity to network not only with each other but also with members of the Global Encounters platform and the participating departments. Last but not least, the Global Encounters Fellows will present their work in an international workshop organized by the fellows themselves.

International guest researchers can receive fellowships for a period of 12 months. To be eligible for a fellow-ship, researchers must have spent the majority of their academic career outside Germany.

It is important to note that although it is possible to propose people/researchers who are already affiliated with the University of Tübingen through a scholarship or fellowship, there are restrictions regarding the duration of further funding. Applicants who are already affiliated with the University of Tübingen through a research fellowship cannot be funded for longer than 18 months. Researchers who were previously linked to the University via a teach@tübingen scholarship cannot be funded for longer than 24 months. A Global Encounters Fellowship that is already ongoing cannot be extended.

The stipend amounts to 2350€ per month, plus supplements for children (400€ for the first child and 100€ for each addi-tional child). The fellowship is not equivalent to an employment status at the University, i.e. fellows will not automatically be covered by health, unemployment, or retirement insurance through the funding period. The fellowships are subject to a residency requirement.

Early and mid-career scholars (maximum 8-12 years after doctorate) with a research focus in one of the thematic fields of the platform may personally apply or be proposed by faculty members of the University of Tübingen.

Documents to be submitted: 

- A project proposal (maximum three pages). 

- A letter of support by the Tübingen host. 

- A CV including a list of publications. 

All applications will be reviewed by colleagues who are working in the same or adjacent fields of research at the University of Tübingen. In July, the platform's advisory board will discuss all applications and make a recommendation; the final funding decision will be made by the university leadership.

After the end of the funding period, a report on the activities during the funding period must be submitted to the coordinator of the platform Global Encounters.
