The research of the working group include morphology and taxonomy of Cenozoic freshwater fishes, amphibians, reptiles, and small and large mammal biostratigraphy, magnetostratigraphy, palaeoecology and palaeobiogeography, palaeoclimatology based on ectothermic vertebrates as proxies-organisms.

The thematic priorities of the bioclimatic analyses of palaeo-precipitation using herpetofaunas are the evolution of the Neogene herpetofauna of the Eastern Paratethys and Central Asia, on small mammals based biostratigraphy and magnetostratigraphy in the Miocene of Europe, the ecology of Miocene large mammals in Europe, turtles and crocodiles, and Cenozoic ecosystems in Southeast Asia , archaeozoology of the Stone Age caves of the Swabian Alb, and much more...
