The canonical Dr. theol. and - in a joint doctoral network with the Faculty of Protestant and Catholic Theology, the Faculty of Arts and Humanities and the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences - also a Dr. phil. can be obtained at the Faculty.

Under Section 38(7) Baden-Württemberg State University Law (Landeshochschulgesetz, LHG) – the association represents the interests of all doctoral students at the Faculty of Catholic Theology.

Doctoral students who have started their doctoral studies in accordance with the doctoral degree regulations of July 15, 2014, and continue their doctoral studies in accordance with these doctoral degree regulations, or who wish to apply to commence the doctoral qualification process, must send an appropriate application to the doctoral studies committee in accordance with Section 24(2) of the new doctoral degree regulations.
