Short biography

Hans-Jürgen Bieling is Professor for Political Economy and Economic Education at the Institute of Political Science in Tübingen since the winter term 2011/2012.

He studied Political Science at Philipps University of Marburg where he then worked as research assistant and later became an assistant professor ("The European Union in the Process of Globalisation"). Afterwards, he was stand-in professor at the University of Hamburg and the Technical University of Darmstadt before being appointed as professor at the University of Applied Sciences Bremen.
At the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen he is involved in all degree programs offered by the Institute for Political Science. A particular emphasis is placed on the teaching degree program "Politics and Economy"as well as on the master‘s degree programm "Democracy and Governance in Europe".
The main focus of Hans-Jürgen Bieling´s work is International Political Economy and European Integration. Furthermore, he is interested in issues concerning theory of society, state and politics. Currently, he is engaged in the field of understanding the process and the impact of the global financial crisis for the European Union.

Hans-Jürgen Bieling is involved in several research and cooperation networks. Amongst others, he is a member of the DFG junior research network "Political Economy of global financialisation processes" and co-editor of the series "Globale Politische Ökonomie" (VS-publishing). Besides, he is liaison professor of the Hans Böckler Foundation.
