Open Lecture: Men, Masculinities, and Militarism

Claire Duncanson is <link http: www.pol.ed.ac.uk people academic_staff claire_duncanson external-link-new-window external link in new>Senior Lecturer in International Relations at the University of Edinburgh. Before completing her PhD in Politics, she had worked in various international NGOs, including Amnesty International, Jubilee 2000 and Global Perspective.

In her research she focuses on gender politics in the fields of international security and international relations. Concentrating on masculinities, she explores the connections between gender and current international issues like military interventions, peacebuilding and nuclear proliferation.

Her publications include Gender and Peacebuilding (Polity Press, 2016), Forces for Good? Military Masculinities and Peacebuilding in Afghanistan and Iraq (Palgrave Macmillan, 2013), and The Palgrave International Handbook of Gender and the Military (co-ed. with Rachel Woodward) (Palgrave Macmillan, 2017). Her work has also been published in some of the major journals of the discipline including Security Dialogue, New Political Science, and the International Feminist Journal of Politics.
