Stefan Huber, Professor at the University of Tübingen
Chair of Private Law, Civil Procedure and Private International Law
Stefan Huber studied law at the Universities of Cologne, Paris I (Panthéon-Sorbonne) and Heidelberg. He received a doctoral degree from Heidelberg University and completed his post-doctoral “Habilitation” there in 2014. Then he held a chair at the University of Hanover before moving to the University of Tübingen, where he holds a chair of Private Law, Civil Procedure and Private International Law. He is director of the study program on procedural law and co-director of the study program “rhetoric and law”. He is on the board of the Tübingen Centre for Francophone Worlds and president of the Law Society Tübingen. In 2023 and 2024, Stefan Huber was visiting professor at the University Paris II (Panthéon-Assas).
The main research areas comprise the fields of national, comparative and European civil procedure, conflict of laws and transnational commercial law. Stefan Huber is the author of more than 100 publications, co-editor of IPRax, one of the leading German law reviews on private international law, and co-editor of numerous books.
Stefan Huber is a member of the German Council on Private International Law (Deutscher Rat für Internationales Privatrecht), a body advising the Federal Government on matters of conflict of laws, and a member of the European Group for Private International Law (EGPIL – GEDIP). He is coordinator of the working group on the structure of civil litigation, which is part of the research project “Comparative Procedural Law and Justice – CPLJ”. He is a member of the research group Tarzia on comparative procedural law, and he participated in a project of the Association Henri Capitant on the development of European standards for the enforcement of private rights between merchants.
Stefan Huber is on the board of the Association for International Procedure for Austria, Germany and Switzerland and a member of the selection committee for LL.M. scholarships of the DAAD, a public organisation of Germany for the international exchange of students and researchers.
