Theory and Evidence in Securitization Studies

Thierry Balzacq is Professor of Political Science and International Relations at Namur University in Belgium. He is also an associate member of CERCI (Centre d’étude des crises et des conflits internationaux) at Université Catholique de Louvain. Since 2008 he has also been Research Director of the Project ‘The EU Area of Freedom, Security and Justice’ at Sciences Po in Paris.
As a specialist on International Relations Theory and Critical Approaches to Security Studies his research interests focus on theories of security and European Union policies on migration, border security and internal security. He is one of the most prominent „friendly critics“ of securitization theory as initially developed in the Copenhagen School.
