International Economic History researched the long-term development of countries and world regions and is a core sector of the economic sciences.

 

Topics


Research

Four broad themes characterize our research during the last years: the econometric history of firms and  innovations, the study of welfare development and growth in economies around the world, the
long-run development of education and human capital in global perspective, and the determinants and effects of interpersonal violence.

Teaching

We offer a broad range of lectures, seminars and research internships for Bachelor, Master and doctoral students. Our aim is to inform about current research topics and teach applied empirical study. The courses are offered mostly in English.

We publish in numerous international journals, we participate on the major conferences of Economic History and related topics actively, and organise them as well.

How to find us

Arriving by train

Deutsche Bahn (DB) to Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof (Hbf)

DB from Stuttgart Hbf to Tübingen Hbf; cycle time: every hour, journey takes about one hour.

From Tübingen central station please use the TüBus-line 6 to station Mohlstrasse or use the TüBus-line 1 to station Lothar-Meyer-Bau, the way by foot to the chair is round about 5 minutes.
(The bus station is next to the central station.)

Arriving by car

From motorway A8

→ Follow the four-lane Bundesstrasse B27 to Tübingen

→ 2. Exit - direction Böblingen/Lustnau

→ 3. junction go left on the Wilhelmstrasse

→ Follow this street. The street leads straight into Mohlstrasse, than into Hausserstrasse and finally into Hölderlinstrasse.

→ On the junction Sigwartstrasse go right. After round about 100 meter right again into Brunsstrasse and follow this street about 200 meter until Melanchthonstrasse. You will find the chair at the corner Brunsstrasse/Melanchthonstrasse.

Arriving by plane

The nearest airports are Stuttgart (IATA code STR) and Frankfurt/Main (for intercontinental - IATA code FRA).

  • From airport Frankfurt with Deutsche Bahn (at least to change once in Stuttgart), the journey takes round about 2 to 3 hours
  • From airport Stuttgart with the bus 828 (Airport-Sprinter). Cycle time: twice per hour. The journey takes rount about 70 minutes.
  • From Tübingen central station with the TüBus-line 6 to station Mohlstrasse or with the TüBus-line 1 to station Lothar-Meyer-Bau, the way by foot to the chair is round about 5 minutes.
