About the Lecture
In this public lecture, Prof. Jonathan Sullivan will examine how the United Kingdom navigates the delicate balancing act between supporting Taiwan and maintaining its official diplomatic and economic relationship with the People’s Republic of China. Against the backdrop of increasing geopolitical tension and shifting global alliances, the UK’s Taiwan policy has evolved significantly in recent years. Drawing on his expertise in political behavior and cross-Strait relations, Prof. Sullivan will offer insights into the UK's strategic choices and the broader implications for foreign policy and global diplomacy.

Prof. Sullivan’s research covers a wide range of topics, including:
Political communication and behavior in China
Cross-Strait relations and foreign policy
The intersection of popular culture and politics
In addition to his academic work, he has been actively engaged with government bodies, including an ESRC-funded collaborative project with the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). He frequently contributes commentary and analysis to international media outlets and was previously a British Science Association Media Fellow, which enabled him to work with the BBC.
