Media

Besides the print holdings, our users have increasing access to digital media and a range of special media forms.
Please feel free to contact us at any time if you have questions regarding their use!

Print books

  • The holdings in the reading room are arranged systematically: The plan and classification by subject can be found here. The classification system is also displayed on the shelves, which are labeled accordingly.
Please return every book you have taken out to its place on the shelf after use - books that have not been shelved correctly can no longer be found by others!
If a book is not in its place, we may be able to tell you whether it is currently on loan and can be reclaimed.
  • New acquisitions can be searched by subject area and month of acquisition.

Journals & newspapers

  • Journals:
The bound volumes are located on the 1st floor. They can only be used on-site, but you can of course scan / copy articles from them. If you would like us to send you single articles by e-mail, you can use our scanning service as a lecturer (not as a student, unfortunately).
The current issues that are not yet bound are available in alphabetical order in the journal reading room on the 2nd floor: The latest issue of a journal is on the flap of the relevant journal box, the other issues are underneath inside the box. These issues should only be used in the journal reading room and may not be borrowed; however, you can take them to the copying and scanning room for a while.
  • The BBB currently holds the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung - you will find it next to the new acquisitions shelf on the 1st floor. The central University Library close-by has a wide range of national and international newspapers. You also have access (being connected to the university's online network) to online databases from, among others, FAZ, SZ or SPIEGEL.

E-books & e-journals

  • E-books are acquired in close cooperation with the University Library (UB) and listed in the joint Katalog plus.
The access and usage options may vary, you can find more information here.
Some extensive collections: E-book collections by disciplines.
  • E-journals are also made available in cooperation with the UB and can be found in the Electronic Journals Library in addition to the Katalog plus, also sorted by disciplines.
By the way: the UB offers with Tübingen Open Journals a system for (self-)publishing academic journals online.

Other media types

  • The BBB owns over 4,000 microfiches and microfilms, as well as numerous CD-ROMs and audiovisual media (DVDs, CDs).
  • They are listed in the catalog, but currently not openly displayed. Ask us at the information desk and we will fetch the desired medium for you!
  • The borrowing conditions are the same as for books.
  • Audiovisual media can also be found at the Mediathek in the same building and at various departments.

Electronic course reserves

Electronic course reserves contain copies or scans of articles and other texts that are made available for a course via the university's online learning platform ILIAS, run by the University Library.
