Aim of the study

The aim of the project is to develop the natural sugar 7-deoxysedoheptulose (7dSh), which has outstanding herbicidal properties, into a usable pre-emergence herbicide for agricultural and non-agricultural land. The project aims to improve the biotechnological production processes for 7dSh and to work on a suitable formulation for soil treatment with 7dSh (e.g., in granule or capsule form). Furthermore, the effect of potential formulations on plants and soil microbes will be analyzed in terms of their ecotoxicological risk potential and registrability. The primary goal is to develop a prototype of an approvable and environmentally compatible herbicide based on 7dSh.
