Hala Attoura has been the Reader and Coordinator of Arabic Studies at the Department of Oriental and Islamic Studies since 2001. She teaches Arabic on all levels, including advanced courses in Arabic communication and translation.
After earning her M.A. degree at the Free University Berlin in Ancient Near Eastern Studies, Ancient Oriental Studies and Classical Archaeology, she participated in numerous archaeological excavations, particularly in Greece and Syria (al-Raqqa). She also holds an M.A. degree from the University of Damascus in Visual Communication and Translation and is a certified translator and interpreter of Arabic. Her main interests are cultural transfer, acculturation, and proverbs. She has published studies on Ancient Oriental culture and Classical Archaeology. Moreover, she translates for the Zeitschrift für Orientarchäologie.
