Profile of the Counselling Research Section

How we see ourselves

The Counselling Research Section is mindful of the increasing relevance of counselling in diverse social science contexts. Counselling, in our view, can be construed in two ways: 1) as an interface between a great variety of psychosocial fields of work (e.g. social work, school, educational tools, the health system, social administration); and 2) as a specialized support tool (e.g. educational counselling, addiction counselling, couples and family conflict counselling, pregnancy-conflict counselling). Whether as interface or support tool, the status of counselling needs to be constantly reviewed and updated – if it is to perform its facilitating role in terms of promoting transdisciplinary discourse, where science and practice join hands to deliver professional outcomes at the level of pedagogical action.
