With all of the theory going on in the lecture hall, practice should not be forgotten. The MADRE programme therefore provides you the opportunity to see places and meet interesting personalities in European politics in the flesh and ask them questions. Once per semester you can go on an excursion to Strasbourg, Brussels, Berlin or also to other EU member states (e.g. Cyprus). Participation in "Model United Nations", an established UN simulation at the headquarters of the UN in New York is accreditable in the framework of this module as well.
The excursions are always based on seminars, and thus are geared towards particular topics. This is also reflected by the choice of dialogue partners, in order to provide you with the chance to consolidate what you have learned in your seminar by discussing with professionals. One of our recent highlights was a discussion with Elmar Brok (MEP). In the summer of 2017, the long-standing representative in the European Parliament spoke to students in detail about his work as one of the commissioners of the European Parliament for the Brexit negotiations.
Not only are such discussions exciting, but they have often lead to internships and job opportunities for the students involved.
