Blickwinkel Conference 2026: worth discussing – the realms and limits of dialogue
Forum on Anti-Semitism and Racism in Education and Science September 28 and 29, 2026, in Stuttgart. The Conference will be held in German.
Dialogue is often held up as a universal solution to social conflicts. Whilst the call to engage in dialogue ‘with everyone’ remains loud and clear, spaces for education and exchange are under pressure: they are
attacked, delegitimised or exploited to spread misanthropic ideologies. Right-wing populist actors also use public forums for dialogue, such as TV talk shows, panel discussions and social media, to spread anti-Semitic, racist and other misanthropic ideologies – all under the guise of freedom of expression.
This raises pressing questions: What are the benefits of such exchanges? What role can political education play in social dialogue? Who are we talking to – and at what point does a conversation become an imposition? Where are the red lines? How can we create and preserve safe spaces? And how, at the same time, can we protect ourselves from filter bubbles that distort our view of reality?
At the 17th Blickwinkel Conference, which will take place in Stuttgart from 28 to 29 September 2026, we will discuss together the possibilities and necessary boundaries of discourse in both digital and analogue spaces.
Anti-Semitism, racism, Islamophobia – a society of migration, rivalries, educational strategies: These key terms are increasingly shaping the social, academic and educational debate on prejudice and on exclusionary patterns of thought and interpretation. In many cases, the discussion oscillates between zeal and a lack of direction, between clear-cut positions and nuanced perspectives.
Since 2011, the ‘Blickwinkel’ series has been highlighting current analyses, discussing innovative educational approaches and offering a critical perspective on the discourse. In doing so, the organisers facilitate ongoing exchange and networking between academia and educational practice.
