Registration regulations for coursework and examinations

On this website you will find information on how to register for coursework and examinations. The procedures are partly dependent on the chosen course of study and on the version of the study and examination regulations according to which you are studying. Further information can be found on the website of the Examinations Office of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences and instructions for registering on Alma can be found on the ZDV website.

For which services do I need to register in Alma?

In the following courses of study (with the version of the study and examination regulations (PO) specified in each case), registration is generally required for all coursework (Übungsnachweis = Leistungsschein) and for all examinations (written exams, oral exams, proseminars, seminars) (BUT: this in some courses of study no registration for coursework is possible; registration in Alma may not be possible for elective modules from courses in other departments):

  • Bachelor of Education - Mathematics (all POs; in the modules Algebra, Geometry, Numerics and Stochastics no registration for coursework)
  • Master of Education - Mathematics (all POs)
  • Bachelor of Science - Mathematics (PO 2017)
  • Bachelor of Science - Mathematics (PO 2020)
  • Master of Science - Mathematics (PO 2019, no registration for coursework)
  • Master of Science - Mathematical Physics (PO 2019, no registration for coursework)

The following courses of study are not managed via Alma and therefore you cannot register for them in Alma:

  • Bachelor of Science - Mathematics (PO 2008)
  • Master of Science - Mathematics (PO 2008)
  • Master of Science - Mathematical Physics (PO 2017)
  • all state examination courses in teaching

Registration period / registration deadlines

Registration for coursework and examinations in Alma begins on December 15th of the winter semester and in the summer semester on June 15. It ends on the last Friday of the lecture period of the semester in question. If exams are to take place before the dates mentioned, registration in Alma can also be activated earlier in individual cases.

For written exams, in addition to registering in Alma, a further registration (e.g. in the department's own online system URM) may be required. The examiner will provide information about this and the deadlines for additional registration. The dates of the exams are usually stored in the course catalog for the course.

For oral exams, the exam date should be agreed with the respective examiner no later than one week before the end of the lecture period. If the examiners manage their oral examinations via the department's own online system URM, the examination days offered and the agreed examination dates can be viewed in URM.

How do I register for an oral exam?

The students arrange an examination date with the respective examiner and register with the examiner for the exam.

In study programmes that require registration in Alma, students must in addition register for the exam in Alma; only then is the registration legally binding.

How do I register for a written exam?

If the written exam is offered after a course, the lecturer of the course informs about how to register for the exam and the deadline by which registration must be made.

In courses of study that require registration in Alma, students must in addition register for the written exam in Alma; only then is the registration legally binding.

How do I register for an examination in a (pro-)seminar?

In order to be able to participate in a proseminar or seminar, it is necessary to register for the course with the lecturer.

In courses of study that require registration in Alma, in addition registration for the examination in the proseminar or seminar in Alma is required. In all other courses of study, registration for participation in the proseminar or seminar is also registration for the examination.

How do I register for courswork (Übungsnachweis, Leistungsschein)?

For coursework that is acquired during a course (exercise classes, practical courses, etc.), registration for the course is required and the lecturer of the course usually provides information at the beginning of the course about how to register for the course.

In courses of study that require registration in Alma, students must in addition register in Alma for coursework (Übungsnachweis = Leistungsschein); only then is the registration legally binding.

Withdrawal from an examination

The deadlines by which it is possible to withdraw from an examination without giving reasons are regulated in the respective general part of the study and examination regulations.

If you have registered for an examination (written exam, oral exam, (pro-)seminar, etc.) in Alma, you must withdraw from the examination online in Alma or, alternatively, by notifying the examination office in writing. Only then is the withdrawal formally correct and effective. In the case of oral exams and (pro-)seminars as well as written exams, provided that you have additionally with the examiner, the examiner must also be informed of the withdrawal.

Withdrawal from coursework

Withdrawal from coursework is possible at any time without giving reasons. It is sufficient to notify the lecturer of the respective course.

If a registration for coursework has been made in Alma and the coursework is not successfully completed in the relevant semester (for whatever reason), the student must deregister from the coursework in Alma. Otherwise it is no longer possible to re-register for the same coursework in Alma in a following semester.
