Deborah Halang completed her bachelor's degree in social work and her master's degree in social change management at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences. As part of her bachelor's degree, she completed an internship at the 'Verein für Straffälligenhilfe Görlitz e.V.' (Association for the Assistance of Offenders) and has since been working on criminological issues. In her bachelor's thesis, she investigated the possibilities of implementing the concept of the House of Juvenile Justice for the Görlitz district and interviewed public prosecutors, police officers and social workers. In her master's thesis, she interviewed mayors, police officers and employees of the Saxon State Prevention Council on the implementation of the Saxon Prevention Strategy ASSKomm.
In her activities as a freelance social scientist and as a research assistant at the Nuremberg Institute of Technology and the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, she conducted individual and focus group interviews and dealt with the improvement of the quality of studies and teaching.
