Summer term 2026

Ethics of Media Informatics

This seminar develops ethical reasoning skills for future computer scientists and media informatics professionals. We learn to analyze and discuss ethical dilemmas that arise when designing, implementing, and deploying computing systems. The course connects technical decisions to impacts on individuals and society, and emphasizes that "can we build it" is different from "should we build it."

We meet every week on Thursday at 10:15 in Room C206, Sand 14. Find more information on Ilias.

Interactive Mixed Reality

In this course, students learn how to design and implement interactive XR applications using the Unity engine. The course covers core topics such as XR input, hand tracking, locomotion, haptics and avatar embodiment. Throughout the semester, students explore these concepts through hands-on exercises and building small prototypes. In the final project, they design and implement their own mixed reality application demo.

We meet every Monday at 8:30 in Room C118a, Sand 14. Find more information on Ilias.

Team Project

In this project, students work in teams to plan and implement a complex software system in the field of human–computer interaction. This summer term, the project investigates how the visual fitness of a virtual avatar affects users’ experiences and behaviour in virtual reality. Students develop the required VR application using an omnidirectional treadmill that allows users to physically walk through the virtual environment, and conduct a user study to empirically investigate potential effects.

Interaction Techniques and Technologies

This course introduces the foundations of human-computer interaction techniques and technologies that enable interactive systems. We learn how user input is sensed, processed, and interpreted using digital signal processing, machine learning, and computer vision, and how interactive systems provide effective feedback. The course combines theoretical concepts with practical exercises on implementing, evaluating, and prototyping interaction techniques using contemporary tools and datasets.

We meet every Tuesday at 8:30 in Room F122, Sand 6.Find more Information on Ilias.
