Gamma-Ray Bursts - an engima and a tool

Jochen Greiner, Max-Planck-Institut für extraterrestrische Physik (MPE), Garching, Germany — June 22, 2026

After an introduction to basic observational features of Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs), I will concentrate on two aspects: (i) understanding the emission process in GRBs, for both, the prompt and the afterglow emission, and (ii) using GRBs as a tool to study other scientific phenomena. I will end with an outlook on two near-future projects (POLAR-2, ASIDES) which promise to make progress in both these aspects.
