Gravito-turbulence in accretion disks: instabilities, spirals and locality

Spiral structures are frequently observed in circumstellar disks. These spirals are sometimes associated with the self-gravitating nature of the disk, when it is still massive relative to its central star. In that case, they could be used to infer constraints on the physical properties inside the disk. I will look back at the results of numerical simulations of self-gravitating turbulence in disks, with a specific focus on its morphological properties and on the role of the spirals in the accretion process.
