War in Europe: Russia’s attack on Ukraine

The Institute for Eastern European History and Area Studies at the University of Tübingen condemns Vladimir Putin’s military attack on the democratic country of Ukraine. Like many people, we are stunned by the cruelty of this aggression.
As historians whose genuine task is the transfer of knowledge between Eastern Europe and the West, our continuing concern is for constructive dialogue. At the moment, however, we feel the pain of innocent people in Ukraine and we greatly admire all those in Russia who have the courage to take a public stand against Russia's brutal war of aggression.
