Institute for Research on Far Right Extremism (IRex)

The institute researches far right extremism and its social embeddedness. The research results aim at strengthening our democracy in state and civil society. Researchers from various disciplines investigate right-wing extremism and its social embedding in Baden-Württemberg and beyond. Three professorships, including Germany's first professorship for far right extremism research in the field of political science, are permanently funded by the state of Baden-Württemberg. In addition, a fourth professorship for social science anti-Semitism research will be established.
IRex's transdisciplinary research aims to understand the political and lifeworld dimensions of right-wing extremism. The research findings are intended to promote a democratic attitude that is based on universal human rights. Dialogue and knowledge transfer are central to IRex. The Institute cooperates with organizations and individuals from academia, the state and society in all phases of research and communication.
To this end, research questions are developed in dialog with partners from research, practice, the state and civil society and the results are communicated at various levels of society in a manner appropriate to the target group.
