Prof. Gordon C. K. Cheung (張志楷) is Associate Professor in International Relations of China and former Director of the Centre for Contemporary Chinese Studies at Durham University, United Kingdom. He obtained his PhD from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1997, and became a Fellow of the Higher ducation Academy in the UK in 2007. He serves as advisory board member of the European Research Centre on Contemporary Taiwan (ERCCT) at the University of Tübingen, Germany since 2008. He has been editing a leading academic journal, East Asia: An International Quarterly since 2004. Previously, he taught and held various visiting positions at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, the National University of Singapore, Renmin University in China, University of Oxford, Tsinghua University in China, University of Tübingen, University of Hong Kong and Academia Sinica, Taiwan. He has authored four books on Chinese international relations and political economy: Market
Liberalism: American Foreign Policy toward China (1998), China Factors: Political Perspectives and Economic Interactions (2007) [Chinese version, 《中國因素：大中華圈的機會與挑戰》 (2009)], intellectual Property Rights in China: Politics of Piracy, Trade and Protection (2009) and China in the Global Political Economy: From Developmental to Entrepreneurial (2018). He has published many articles in leading academic journals. Gordon engages a long-term project on the global view of China’s economic development and transformation. His other research projects cover the politics of China-Taiwan economic relations and the political economy of food and the global Chinese.
