The International Center for Ethics in the Sciences and Humanities (IZEW) at the University of Tübingen invites applications
for the position of an Tenure-Track Professor “Ethics in the Sciences and Humanities”. The position will start first of October 2018.
The candidate should be able to represent the area of “Ethics in the Sciences and Humanities” in research and teaching, and will take on an active part in administration. He/She should have expert knowledge in ethical and interdisciplinary work and is expected to conduct research on ethical questions within the sciences, also relating to the philosophy of science and the methodology of application oriented ethics. Furthermore, the responsibilities entail service in the executive committees of the IZEW.
The main teaching focus lies on interdisciplinary seminars in the area of “Ethics in the Sciences and Humanities” (e.g. Ethicum, Studium Oecologicum).
Required qualifications include an outstanding doctoral thesis within the field of application oriented ethics, as well as teaching aptitude. We look for competences for interdisciplinary research and transdisciplinary communication skills. The acquisition and management of third-party grants is an important part of the position. Experience in publishing in international peer-reviewed journals is advantageous. Furthermore, the successful applicant is expected to acquire fluency in German within two years. Applicants for a tenure-track professorship with a PhD from Tübingen must have changed universities after completing their doctorates or have worked in academia for at least two years somewhere other than the University of Tübingen.
If the final evaluation after six years is positive, this professorship will be upgraded to a full (W3) professorship with no re-advertising of the position.
