Academic Background
Dr. Amjed Rasheed is a visiting lecturer at the Institute of Political Science (IPS). Before joining the Institute, he was a post-doc research fellow at the School of Government and International Affairs (SGIA) at Durham University, where he finished his Ph.D. in 2017 also. Amjed holds an MSc in International Politics from Glasgow University and MA in International Peace Studies from the University for Peace Costa Rica. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in the UK (FHEA) and a board member of Iraqi-Kurdistan based Open Think Tank (OTT). He is also a part-time lecturer at SOAS where he delivers regular courses on the Kurdish issue for the Diplomatic Academy at the Foreign Commonwealth Office-London (FCO). He currently works on two research projects, one on the rise of China and authoritarian reinforcement in the MENA region, and the second one is on drivers of violent extremism ( with Uppsala University and the Berghof Foundation). He is the associate editor of Durham based Shura Councils in the Persian Gulf Monograph Series, and al-Sabah Insights.
