Faculty of Catholic Theology

Habilitation

towards habilitation in one of the theological disciplines? We would be delighted to welcome you to our faculty as a habilitation candidate. If you want more information, please contact the dean’s office or a member of teaching staff.

Habiliation formally establishes the scientific and pedagogic ability to independently present a Catholic theology subject in research and teaching. Based on successful completion of a habiliation thesis, a license to teach (venia legendi) will be awarded for a specific subject or specialist field of Catholic theology.

With the habilitation, the faculty also decides on the corporate affiliation of the researcher to the faculty (‘associate professor’/Privatdozent).
Admission to the habiliation process requires a doctorate in Catholic theology and in addition several years’ academic work in research and teaching. This work is usually documented with academic publications and active participation in conferences.

If you intend to complete your habilitation at the faculty this should be notified to the dean’s office before the habilitation process and therefore before the application to take the qualification, if possible when starting to write the thesis.
