Module examinations
If you are studying one of the following degrees you are required to take module examinations:
- Islamic Theology (B.A.) 6 semesters
- Islamic Religious Education (B.Ed.) 6 semesters
- Islamic Theology in the European Context (M.A.) 2/4 semesters
- Practical Islamic Theology for Chaplaincy and Social Work (M.A.) 4 semesters
A module examination concludes a study module and consists of a written exam, oral exam, seminar paper (or other)
For all module examinations, you must sign up in time.
You only have to sign up once for each module. Please name the title of the module that you want to be examined in. You do not need to sign up for course achievement.
1) Seminar paper
The teachers announce possible topics for seminar papers and the deadline for submission is at the beginning of the seminar.
If you are not able to comply with the deadline due to severe causes (illness, deaths in the family), please apply for a prolongation of the deadline. You have to do this before the end of the deadline in writing and showing relevant proofs. If you miss the deadline without applying for a prolongation in time, you will receive the grade “insufficient”.
In case you do not pass the seminar paper, you can repeat it. Please make an appointment with the corresponding seminar teacher and get a new topic. The working time and scope of the paper needs to correspond to the guidelines of the first attempt.
Please bear in mind §27 paragraph 2 sentence 1 of the study- and examination regulations of the B.A. study course: „Die Wiederholungsprüfung ist [...] in der Regel in dem auf die nicht bestandene Prüfung folgenden Semester, spätestens jedoch in dem darauf folgenden Semester abzulegen [...]." I.e. a repeated examination usually has to be done in the semester that follows the failed examination, however, at the latest in the subsequent semester.
2) Written examination
If the module examination consists of a written examination, you have to register for participation within the registration deadline for examinations. The examination board will announce this deadline. It is not possible to register after the deadline has expired. Participation in written examinations without registration is inadmissible.
You can cancel your registration for the written examination without giving reasons until one working day (excluding Saturdays) before the examination. In order to do so, please fill in the designated form and put it into the mailbox of the examination office.
In case you are not able to participate due to severe causes that become apparent only after the deadline for cancelling, you need to inform the examination board immediately (at the latest one day after the missed examination). This needs to be in written form and showing relevant proofs (e.g. in case of inability of giving the examination due to illness, please hand in a medical certificate).
Handing in the proofs late without pre-announcing this via phone call is only admissible if you can prove that the delay could not be avoided (due to a long hospital stay etc.).
If you do not pass a written examination or you were absent with excuse, you are automatically registered for the next examination date offered in this course. If you do not want to participate on this examination date, you definitely need to cancel until one day before the examination as indicated above. Please do so by writing an e-mail to your teacher. If you miss to cancel your examination and you do not show up, we have to grade this as unsuccessful attempt 5,0.
