MAPIR Annual Lecture: IR, (De) Coloniality, and the Present Conjuncture

Mustapha Kamal Pasha (Professor Emeritus at Aberystwyth University, Wales, UK) Institutskolloquium / DEPARTMENTAL SEMINAR Wednesday, 23 October 2024 · 16:00 c.t. · Room 124, Institut für Politikwissenschaft Or join online via Zoom

This lecture will reflect on the present conjuncture, which is marked by contradictory currents embedded in notions of exceptionalism and colonial logics of difference and differentiation.
Exploring the paradoxical confluence between sovereignty and empire, the presentation highlights the difficulty of delinking sovereignty from empire.
In placing the two in contention, the lecture seeks to show the generative power of decolonial thought as well as its limitations in addressing recent dramatic events.
