With our research work in school psychology, we aim to gain new insights in order to derive important information, recommendations, and support services for teachers, parents, and learners. Among other things, we address the question of how to help children and adolescents with attention problems improve their concentration in class and while doing homework.

About the Person
Caterina Gawrilow studied psychology at Marburg from 1997 to 2002, working as a research assistant on a project concerning the quality of life of children and adolescents in child and adolescent psychiatry. Then she completed her PhD in Konstanz, focusing on a topic in basic psychological research, which primarily involved applied laboratory studies. Gawrilow investigated how adolescents with ADHD can be supported through motivational instructions in task completion. Her research stays took her to Hamburg and New York. In 2009, she became an Assistant Professor at the DIPF in Frankfurt before taking up the Professorship for School Psychology in Tübingen in 2013. Her research approach is cognitive-psychological, with a focus on experimental and general psychology.
Schools have a societal mission, in addition to their educational mandate, to develop children and adolescents into responsible and conscientious individuals. Key aspects include individual support as well as fostering self-sufficiency and personal responsibility. "To fulfill this mission, schools also need psychological knowledge and concepts, as well as immediate psychological support in everyday school life," says Caterina Gawrilow, head of the School Psychology department at the University of Tübingen and member of the "More Psychology in Schools" commission of the Federation of German Psychologists' Associations. read more
