He works in the joint project LegiNot (Legitimation of the Emergency - Change of Legitimation in the Emergency), funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. In March 2024, he started his doctorate in sociology on trust in security actors in times of crisis (supervised by Prof. Dr. Martin Groß und Prof. Dr. Rita Haverkamp). His analysis is based on an online vignette study with about 9,000 respondents conducted in Germany at the beginning of 2024 as part of LegiNot.
Kohler completed his bachelor's degree in sociology and his master's degree in international criminology at the University of Hamburg. As part of his studies, he spent a semester abroad at the University of Ghent in Belgium. Based on an internship at the human rights organization KISA - Action for Equality, Support, Anti-Racism in Nicosia, Cyprus, Kohler wrote his master's thesis on "Labor Exploitation of Migrants in the Republic of Cyprus". In addition to his studies, he held various teaching positions in the B.A. Public Management at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences.
