Research
My masters thesis focuses on the colloidal synthesis of two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDC) nanosheets and nanoplatelets, which show promising optical properties like a direct band gap at around 2 eV as well as spin-orbit coupling.
Until this point, the variation of synthesis parameters was used to gain understanding of and control over the formation of the nanosheets with regard to their lateral size and crystallographic phase. My work includes the colloidal synthesis of the nanoparticles as well as their characterization via UV-Vis spectroscopy and transient absorption spectroscopy, as well as the integration of the particles into potential applications, such as glas fibers.
The aim of the thesis is to further the understanding of the synthesis, to find potential applications of the TMDC nanoparticles and to potentially synthesize TMDC heterostructures.
