Research

My doctoral work focuses on the colloidal synthesis of two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDC) nanosheets and nanoplatelets, more specifically, the colloidal synthesis of semiconducting Molybdenum and Tungsten Ditellurides.

Until this point, the variation of synthesis parameters was used to gain understanding of and control over the formation of the nanosheets with regard to their lateral size and crystallographic phase for the other members of the chalcogenide family, Sulfide and Selenide. My work includes the colloidal synthesis of the nanoparticles as well as their characterization via UV-Vis spectroscopy and transient absorption spectroscopy, as well as the integration of the particles into potential applications.

The aim of the thesis is to further the understanding of the synthesis, to find potential applications of the TMDC nanoparticles and to potentially synthesize TMDC heterostructures.
