Visualization of biochemical processes—storage of blood platelets

An animation explains biochemical processes in blood through a novel visualization.

A computer animation shows the biochemical processes that take place in blood platelets when they are stored in blood banks. For this purpose, a new visualization technique was developed that enables the entire cell metabolism of human thrombocytes to be observed at the same time. The video explains all processes easily understandable and step by step in less than 8½ minutes. All processes shown are based on real measurements that were evaluated in a cooperation between the University of Tübingen, the University of California at San Diego and the Icelandic Blood Bank as part of Lea Buchweitz's bachelor thesis.
