Welcome to the Department of Oriental and Islamic Studies!
The Department of Oriental and Islamic Studies in Tübingen offers a diverse range of seminars, language courses and research projects. Within the framework of our degree programs, students receive a broad overview of the languages, history and cultures of the Middle East and the broader Islamic Orient. Our language program includes Arabic, Persian and Turkish. Research-oriented in-depth courses are offered among others by the two professorships in the fields of Islamic intellectual history (philosophy, theology) and Islamic history and culture (History of literature and culture).
Students in Tübingen benefit from a wide range of interdisciplinary networking opportunities. For example, there is a close exchange with study programs such as Comparative Middle East Politics and Societies, Philosophy, Jewish Studies or with the Center for Islamic Theology.
