Welcome to the Departement of Romance Studies!

In the tradition of German Romance Studies, the Department of Romance Studies at the University of Tübingen …

not only comprehensively researches and teaches the Romance languages and literatures offered as degree programmes (French, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish), but also regularly offers courses on languages and literatures with a smaller number of speakers (Catalan, Romanian). A special feature of the Department of Romance Languages is that, in addition to linguistics, in which the comparison of Romance languages with each other and with Latin is indispensable anyway, the comparative and transnational perspective is also firmly established in research and teaching in literary studies. Numerous exchange programmes with partner universities in Romance-speaking countries (including France, Italy, Portugal, Spain and Latin America) contribute to the internationalisation of studies.
